Palm Sunday
The Palm and the Willow Branch

Palm Sunday   Mark 11: 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: 10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.   Leviticus 23: 40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days.   Palm trees – victory, prosperity,  joy. Willow – weeping willows – sad, depressing, destitute.   Everyone here today came in this room today carrying either a Palm branch or a Willow branch.   Isaiah 15: 7 Therefore the abundance they have gained, And what they have laid up, They will carry away to the Brook of the Willows.   2 times we are most vulnerable in our life: 1.    When you have nothing. 2.    When you have everything   Philippians 4:12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.   A palm day can turn to a willow day real fast.  One phone call.  One visit.   But you can also go from a willow day to a palm day just as fast.   Philippians 4:Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! I’m smart enough to know, during Worship this morning, there were folks that are having a great palm day, but there were some that praised God with their willows.  Which is easier?   We make a bigger deal about our willow days then our palm days.   We brag about our willows.  We recall our willows. We dwell on our willows.  We start to live in our willows.    I don’t worry about the willow people; I worry about the palm people. Willow people are humble.  Palm people – become arrogant. I remember our “Willow days” – didn’t have but a few people.  Broke and didn’t  know if we would make it, and it was those willow days that brought us to the palm days.   Praise Him anyway.  Praise Him when you are broke, when you are prosperous.   Psalm 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.   Psalm 103:1 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgives all thine iniquities; who heals all thy diseases;   Psalm 30:For his anger endures but a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.   Psalm 118:15 But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the Lord.   The will of God has nothing to do with rather you are having a willow day or a palm day.   “Boots or no boots, I have to praise my Lord!” -       House or no house.  Promotion or no promotion. Sickness or health, I have to praise my Lord!   Revelation 7: 9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,   What was in your hand when you entered this house today?
